Whitney's Life in celebration
Born & Raised
Whitney Houston was born in the year 1963 in the state of New Jersey, to her mother Cissy Houston, her dad John Russell Houston, Jr who was an entertainment executive at the time.
They resided in New Jersey for many years, and were into the world of Gospel music in a major way, and happened to have family ties with other well known music artists we all know of today, and this all helped to set the eventual stage of Whitney Houston’s amazing singing career.
Her Career's Spark
Her wonder years began with a spark of excitement as a gospel singer at the age of 11, following her mother Cissy, into the Gospel music arena, who truly encouraged her a great deal to sing. As a gospel singing family, with her two cousins, Dionne Warwick, and Dee Dee Warwick leading the way, as well as the world renowned Aretha Franklin her actual godmother, Whitney was destined to become a great singer and powerful presence in the music industry.
As long as she remained motivated to take on her challenges that surely were to come, she would make her mark and presence felt with such a wonderful and amazing talented voice. In the early 1980’s she began attracting a great deal of big names in the business back then, and even worked as a fashion model once.
Her back up vocal ability graced the presence of Paul Jabara’s album, as the lead vocalist back in the year 1993; it was titled “Paul Jabara & friends”. This new showing of her talent was beginning to take, and make major headlines which helps fuel her new found singing career, and landed her even better deals shortly after.
1st Record Deal
1983 She was offered many record deals, but in any event she accepted one deal at the young age of 20, she was signed to Arista Records. This pretty much sealed her fate to eventually become what we all have seen throughout the years to be.
Whitney Houston’s awesome music career was surely filled with many twists and turns of personal issues, but ultimately she was one of the most amazing singers ever known to mankind. Her beautiful voluptuous voice is one of a kind, and quite frankly she's achieved levels of success in her short 48 years in life, that most human beings can never ever live up to over taking. Now, it was record producer Clive Davis, who noticed her talents most, and was lucky enough to give her this shot of a life time at Arista Records, back in 1983.

Hey again CloudExplorer. I am glad you were able to put together such a detailed article so rapidly. What a loss for all of us. Whitney Houston will surely be missed. But at least she left us a huge catalog of memories for inspiration.
Thanks much for sharing CloudExplorer you are an excellent writer and she was a great singer that started her career at the most saintly place a church and then entered a worldly life. Her voice became more sophisticated but soul was lost. She had a brilliant talent for singing and now she is at peace. Whitney I will always love you.
While Whitney may have gravitated toward the pop end of the music spectrum as her career progressed, I don't think she ever lost her soul, especially coming from a gospel background as she did. I'll never forget her performance at Super Bowl 25 when she sang the national anthem. No one as done it better since.
Thanks for sharing this retrospective of Whitney, Mike. She will surely be missed.
I never was much of fan of hers but i did respect her and the impact´s she had on the music industry.
R.I.P
of course its only right
thats ok i still understood what you meant and thats the most important part
Beautifully done Cloud...you took me through her career so sweetly. Joke between me and Mom...we would sit to hear Whitney sing, pause and look at each other and say, "I don't care what is going on in her personal life, that's a baaaaaaaad hefer, THAT HEFER CAN SANG"!!! It's was all in love and in her struggles we wanted to see her rise above it and thrive.
I don't want to come across as negative but Check your facts in the last paragraph, "in her short 44 years in life" I believe she was 48 or 49. Beyond that GREAT tribute.
Many people still look up to The Voice..and that's Ms. Whitney Houston.
Thanks for the tribute.
Cloudexplorer, your words are music to my heart. Yes she was all that and more. Whitney Houston was a sister that got hurt and left us but is also the inspiration for so many in many aspects. according to friends, Whitney was always loving, king and giving...that is what Jehovah wants us to remember and practice.
Love and peace to all. I am singing with her.
Thanks for this tribute. Interesting history of her career and a great collection of her songs...all my favorites!

When I heard she passed away, I was really saddened. It may be 2012 but her influence in music can be still felt until today. Thank you sharing! Voted up!
